Therapy for Busy Professionals

A Polished Life… but Something Was Missing

Dan’s life was going pretty well, all things considered. He was doing well in his career, and others viewed him as high-functioning and put-together. His marriage and family life seemed fine.

From the outside looking in, his life appeared polished.

But something was missing, and he could tell he was not living to his fullest potential.

He often felt disconnected and lonely, even when surrounded by others.

He didn’t always feel good about his responses to frustrations and interruptions.

He felt inadequate at his job and at home, and he feared the day that others would notice.

Dan realized that he was stuck in some old patterns…

… patterns that hadn’t been working for a long time.

He knew he wanted more for himself.

“In any given moment we have two options:
to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.”
Abraham Maslow

The Decision to Come to Therapy

When Dan first started therapy, he wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

But by digging into what was and wasn’t working in his life, his goals started to take shape.

In the therapy office, Dan courageously engaged in the deeper work of exploring his old beliefs and perceptions, creating new narratives, looking at his self-image and his image of others, and exploring the values he wanted to live by.

New Insight, Understanding, and Behavior

In therapy, Dan realized some things…

His perceived need for control had been pushing others away from him…

So he started to practice more trust with himself and with others.

His insecurities and shame had been masquerading as pride and indifference…

So he started to practice authentically connecting with others from a place of courageous vulnerability.

His desire to be liked by everyone had turned him into a tired “yes man.”

So he started practicing healthier boundaries and finding self-esteem in more stable ways.

His growth affected all areas of his life for the better.

Dan finally started to feel that he was living his best life and unlocking his potential.

Many of us are busy professionals…

Just like Dan, many of us get busy and settle day-to-day for a life that outwardly seems “fine.”

But maybe… in the day-to-day cycle of family, career, and just keeping it together…

You have a sense that you aren’t reaching your full potential.

Maybe you haven’t had the time, focus, and ability to think yourself into a more abundant life on your own.

… but it’s worth the time and effort to challenge yourself.

If you want to start challenging your old, stuck patterns of thought and behavior…

And start exploring fresh narratives and practices…
